Israel Accused of Targeting Gaza’s Children in UN Genocide Inquiry

by admin477351

An independent inquiry by the United Nations has accused Israel of intentionally targeting Palestinian children during the Gaza conflict, asserting that such actions have led to serious violations impacting the future of the Palestinian population. The UN commission’s report scrutinized the conflict’s repercussions on Palestinian children, revealing that a substantial number of those killed in Gaza were minors. It pointed out that attacks in densely populated areas, along with forced displacement and limited access to essential supplies, have severely compromised children’s health and safety.

The commission further reported that the persistent targeting of children, coupled with damage to healthcare and reproductive facilities, played a crucial role in their assessment of potential genocidal intent. The inquiry also underscored the psychological toll of the conflict, noting that numerous children in Gaza are in dire need of mental health support due to the ongoing violence.

In contrast, Israel has dismissed the report’s findings, labeling the accusations as false and describing the inquiry as biased. Israeli officials have denied allegations of genocide, emphasizing that military operations are directed against Hamas rather than civilians.

The report also shed light on the situation in the occupied West Bank, where it documented a rise in violence against Palestinian children. This includes reports of mistreatment during arrests and detentions, contributing further to the contentious international discussion about the conflict’s conduct, humanitarian conditions in Gaza, and accountability for supposed breaches of international law.
