Zelenskyy: Ukraine Lacked Early Warning Before Russian Missile Strikes on Kyiv

by admin477351

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Tuesday that Ukraine did not receive advance notice from its international allies before a Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv that targeted civilian infrastructure. Zelenskyy stated that five missiles hit civilian sites during the assault on Monday, emphasizing the critical nature of timely intelligence sharing to safeguard lives and prepare for such incidents.

Detailing the severity of the strikes, Zelenskyy stressed that early warnings about ballistic missile launches allow civilians and emergency services to brace for incoming threats. In light of this, Ukraine has reiterated its appeal for enhanced air-defense systems, such as Patriot missiles, as Russian offensives on cities and energy facilities increase with the onset of winter.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, mentioned that intelligence cooperation with international partners remains ongoing. He suggested that the lack of an early warning might be related to the specific type of weaponry used by Russia in this instance.

This situation unfolds amid questions regarding U.S. intelligence support for Ukraine, with reports indicating American officials had cautioned Ukrainian counterparts about the potential suspension of intelligence sharing during the Trump administration. Despite this uncertainty, Ukrainian leaders continue to underscore the importance of such cooperation for monitoring missile launches and long-range bomber activities.

Adding to the tension, U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Ukraine to cease attacks on Russian oil refineries and announced a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin concerning diesel supplies. Trump also claimed that an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine had been agreed upon, though Zelenskyy indicated that Ukraine has not received confirmation of this arrangement.

Zelenskyy accused Russia of persisting in its assaults on Ukrainian energy infrastructure despite the alleged ceasefire. He noted Ukraine’s temporary halt on striking Russian energy targets following the U.S. announcement but asserted that any cessation of attacks should be mutual and backed by credible assurances.

Meanwhile, Russian attacks continue to inflict civilian casualties and destruction across Ukraine. In a separate incident in Kharkiv, Zelenskyy reported that four people lost their lives and 41 were injured when a residential building was demolished by a strike.
