WhatsApp has broadened its digital payment offerings by launching a new feature that allows users to pay utility bills directly through its messaging platform. This move enables users to manage everyday expenses such as electricity, gas, and water bills without leaving the app.
Leveraging the Bharat Connect (BBPS) network, WhatsApp’s bill payment service supports over 22,700 billers across 30 different categories. These categories include a wide range of services from FASTag and insurance to credit card and loan payments, providing users with a comprehensive tool for managing their financial obligations.
To use this feature, users can navigate from the WhatsApp home screen to select a specific bill category and provider. After entering their account details, they can review the bill amount before finalizing the payment. The platform offers flexibility in payment methods, supporting UPI, debit, and credit cards. Additionally, users have the ability to view previous transactions, keep track of upcoming bills, and manage multiple accounts with the same service provider.
This enhancement positions WhatsApp as a more versatile digital-services platform, simplifying the process of handling payments and routine tasks by reducing the need to switch between multiple applications. This development underscores the increasing integration of messaging services with digital financial solutions, as technology companies aim to make financial transactions more accessible and convenient within their existing ecosystems.
