Ireland’s government has allocated €75.2 million for the expenses incurred during its six-month European Union Presidency, as reported in figures presented to the Dáil. The presidency, which includes around 250 events such as ministerial meetings and European leaders’ gatherings, has seen significant spending by various departments.

The Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration was the largest spender, with costs amounting to €26.3 million, primarily due to increased policing and security measures. Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported expenditures of €20.3 million, and the Office of Public Works spent €19.6 million.

In anticipation of the presidency’s total costs, the Irish government had earmarked €300 million in the 2026 Estimates. Additionally, An Garda Síochána received an allocation of €125 million specifically for security and related responsibilities during the presidency.

Final expenses for Ireland’s EU Presidency are not expected to be confirmed until 2027, once all events have concluded and any outstanding bills are settled. The presidency’s financial management underscores the significant resources required to host such a large-scale international undertaking.
