Storm Recovery Continues in Ireland Amid Yellow Weather Alerts and Power Outages

by admin477351

Ireland is grappling with the aftermath of Storm Boelo, as approximately 5,000 homes and businesses, primarily in the northwest, remain without power. This follows a significant reduction from an earlier total of about 41,000 outages. ESB Networks has been working diligently to restore electricity, though some customers may continue to experience outages overnight.

The disruption also extends to Dublin Airport, where 30 flights were canceled due to severe winds in Ireland and adverse weather conditions at other destinations. Authorities warn that further delays and cancellations could persist as the situation evolves.

In response to the ongoing weather challenges, Ireland has issued Status Yellow wind warnings for 11 counties, including Carlow, Clare, Cork, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Kilkenny, Mayo, Waterford, Wexford, and Wicklow. The warning is in effect from 5 p.m. on Monday until the end of the day, with possible travel disruptions and fallen trees or branches anticipated.

Additional rain warnings have been announced for parts of Cork, Kerry, Galway, and Mayo, with heavy rainfall posing a risk of localized flooding. The western and southwestern regions are particularly vulnerable, as saturated ground and high river levels exacerbate the flood risk.

Emergency management officials continue to focus recovery efforts, especially in the northwest. Donegal has reported numerous incidents involving fallen trees, road debris, and damaged power lines, while Leitrim has experienced similar issues but largely avoided significant damage.

Meteorologists have noted that the incoming weather system is unlikely to reach the criteria for a named storm, yet the combination of rain and strong winds may further complicate conditions in areas already affected by recent storms. Authorities are advising the public to exercise caution during travel and to report any fallen or damaged electricity wires to ESB Networks.
